Cinema Errante presenta: “El baño del Papa” (César Charlone, Enrique Fernández, Uruguay, 2007, 85 mins) Corre el año 1988 en Melo, un pueblito uruguayo en la frontera con Brasil donde sus habitantes esperan con ansiedad la visita del Papa Juan Pablo II. Ante la perspectiva de multitudes que acudirán a verlo, los más necesitados del pueblo se entusiasman ante la idea de hacerse ricos vendiendo comida y bebida. Beto, un contrabandista de poca monta, cree tener la idea más genial de todas —construir un excusado frente a su casa y cobrar por su uso. Su empeño acarrea un sinfín de consecuencias inesperadas. Cinema Errante presents: “The Pope’s Toilet” (César Charlone, Enrique Fernández, Uruguay, 2007, 85 mins) It’s 1988, and Melo, an Uruguayan town on the Brazilian border, awaits the visit of Pope John Paul II. 50,000 people are expected to attend, and the most humble locals believe that selling food and drink to the multitude will just about make them rich. Petty smuggler Beto thinks he has the best idea of all–he decides he will build a WC in front of his house and charge for its use. His efforts bring about unexpected consequences, and the final results will surprise everyone. [Preceded by the short “Dead King” (Lucrecia Martel, Argentina, 1995, 12 mins)]
